Hillcroft

A house in transition.

Story

Albert bought this one through a lender contact — a foreclosure pickup, and one of the first houses Jonathan walked me through. It’s on Hillcroft proper, a busy street with a median, which knocks roughly ten percent off what it’d be worth a block over. But the neighborhood is great, and the plan was ambitious: convert the two-car garage into another primary bedroom, add a bathroom, and open the whole thing up.

The living room was sunken — a full step down — and I had to convince Albert to fill it. The garage had the usual slope, so we flattened that in the same pour. Then I mapped the existing layout with a LiDAR scan from my phone and redrew the floor plan: walls came out, the bedrooms and their closets got reorganized, a laundry room went in by the dining area, the kitchen got extended, and the old garage-door opening was blocked off — a new door just to the left of it became the entrance to the primary bedroom.

The fill work is done. Right now we’re in a holding pattern — adding a bathroom means permits, and permits mean waiting. Fresh photos coming as soon as we’re moving again.
